An iPod playlist for your wedding can work as a substitute for a live DJ. The process needs some careful planning to ensure you create a playlist that has your guests dancing the whole night through.
Why choose an iPod Wedding Playlist?
Some people choose the iPod DJ option because it fits their budget. That is they don’t have the expense of a DJ to add to their every-growing wedding expenses. Other people make this selection because their reception is in a remote location where the local DJ just won’t do.
Here are our expert tips on creating a great wedding playlist for your iPod.
1. Understand your guests’ taste in music
We all have different taste in music however there are certain tracks that have a broad appeal and manage to cross the generations. Look at who is coming to the party then try to have a little something for everyone. Don’t forget your grandparents – they like to dance too.
2. Design a playlist that flows
Your wedding playlist needs to have a rhythm to it. Of course you’ll be starting off with your first dance, then slowly build up the tempo until you have everyone dancing to your favourite floor fillers. Most people like to end the night with a slow dance but that’s up to you.
3. Be prepared with the right equipment
Use and iPod or a computer to play your music rather than an iPhone. If someone rings the iPhone your music will cut out. Most venues have equipment to play iPods through their sound systems. Your venue will be more than happy to help.
If you have a lot of people attending your wedding celebrations, you may need to hire in a PA system. The more people you have the larger PA System required.
For outdoor weddings make sure you have a power source, extension cords, charger and PA system. You can hire this equipment locally (do a search for “DJ equipment hire” in your location and you’ll find a local equipment hire company). These companies often do delivery, set up and collection for you too.
4. Nominate an iPod monitor (this is important!)
Ideally the iPod needs to be locked away in another room! People see an iPod and instantly think they’re a DJ (especially after a few cocktails). You’ve spent days putting together your carefully curated playlist then uncle Bob comes along and starts playing the Macarena or just something that doesn’t fit in with the groove of your night. Disaster! Of course you can wipe your iPod clean and simply have the wedding playlist on it.
