  • Music for Hotels – the Perfect Playlist

Music for Hotels – the Perfect Playlist

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]75% of hotel guests like to hear music in the lobbies, bars, restaurants and public spaces*

Of course there s no single perfect playlist for a hotel. Compiling the ideal hotel playlist takes time and understanding. A music stylist must take time to understand the hotel brand, its location, guest demographics in order to create an atmosphere where guests can”t help but enjoy themselves.

    Multiple Playlists

A single or random approach to playlist creation throughout the hotel doesn”t work. Music that keeps the bar alive at night will annoy breakfast diners in the morning. This may seem obvious but I can”t tell you how many hotels make this mistake. Often this is down to the hotel not having a solid music policy and allowing staff to select the playlist. Invariably, the hotel employees choose music they like rather than music fitting for the hotel brand.

    Breakfast Playlist

Keep the beats to a minimum over breakfast. Use mellow tunes from a range of music genres such as classical, electronica, mellow pop and so on. Ultimately, the style of music you or your music stylist selects depends on the demographics of your guests. A thorough understanding of age range and nationality will make your job easier.

    Increase Sales

61% are more likely to consume more food and drink when they hear music they like in a hotel

The latest research shows that playing the right kind of music in bars, restaurants and lobby caf has a positive impact on food and beverage sales. If hotel guests” experience is enhanced by a well thought out soundtrack they will linger longer and spend more. • How to create a great iPod playlist for your wedding music

How to create a great iPod playlist for your wedding music

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]An iPod playlist for your wedding can work as a substitute for a live DJ.  The process needs some careful planning to ensure you create a playlist that has your guests dancing the whole night through.

Why choose an iPod Wedding Playlist?

Some people choose the iPod DJ option because it fits their budget. That is they don’t have the expense of a DJ to add to their every-growing wedding expenses. Other people make this selection because their reception is in a remote location where the local DJ just won’t do.

Here are our expert tips on creating a great wedding playlist for your iPod.

    1. Understand your guests’ taste in music

We all have different taste in music however there are certain tracks that have a broad appeal and manage to cross the generations. Look at who is coming to the party then try to have a little something for everyone.  Don’t forget your grandparents – they like to dance too.

    2. Design a playlist that flows

Your wedding playlist needs to have a rhythm to it.  Of course you’ll be starting off with your first dance, then slowly build up the tempo until you have everyone dancing to your favourite floor fillers. Most people like to end the night with a slow dance but that’s up to you.

    3.  Be prepared with the right equipment

Use and iPod or a computer to play your music rather than an iPhone.   If someone rings the iPhone your music will cut out. Most venues have equipment to play iPods through their sound systems.  Your venue will be more than happy to help.

If you have a lot of people attending your wedding celebrations, you may need to hire in a PA system.  The more people you have the larger PA System required.

For outdoor weddings make sure you have a power source, extension cords, charger and PA system.  You can hire this equipment locally (do a search for “DJ equipment hire” in your location and you’ll find a local equipment hire company).  These companies often do delivery, set up and collection for you too.

    4. Nominate an iPod monitor (this is important!)

Ideally the iPod needs to be locked away in another room! People see an iPod and instantly think they’re a DJ (especially after a few cocktails).  You’ve spent days putting together your carefully curated playlist then uncle Bob comes along and starts playing the Macarena or just something that doesn’t fit in with the groove of your night. Disaster! Of course you can wipe your iPod clean and simply have the wedding playlist on it.

  • Why Use Pub Background Music?

    Why Use Pub Background Music?

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Music does not shelter you from rain, you cannot eat, drink, or mate with it, and it does not vanquish predators. Despite the intangibility of music, human beings have always prized it and they invest significant effort, time, and money to create it. There are several reasons why you should use background music in your pub.

Pub background music is important because it keeps people in your pub, which means they will drink more and consequently make you more money. Music keeps people in your pub because brain imaging in research has shown that emotional music engages the brain’s reward system. The brain imaging shows that “peak emotional moments” in music leads to the release of dopamine, a neurotransmitter that is essential for signalling in the brain. Without delving into neuroscience, music creates that “feel good” feeling and gives patrons a sense of happiness.

According to research by CGA who are pub-data specialists, pubs that have background music make 44% more money on average compared to those that do not. This figure rises to 60% over the weekend. Some people go to pubs is to listen to music that is professionally selected, music that they may not have heard at home or in the workplace while others go to pubs to request music that they may not have at home. This explains why jukeboxes have survived for so many years.

You should use pub background music because it allows you to build a character for your pub. As an example, if you want to target people over the age of 50 (who are more likely to spend money than teenagers and those in their 20s), deliberately select music that is 20 year old.

Background pub music is important because it encourages conversations. Patrons will not communicate comfortably if there is no background music and the people on the next table can hear exactly what they are saying.

According to a 2008 report titled “Alcoholism: Clinical and Experimental Research” by Nicolas Gueguen who is a professor of behavioral sciences at France’s Université de Bretagne-Sud, on average, people ordered 2.6 drinks and took 14.5 minutes to finish each drink when bar’s music was at 72 decibels and an average of 3.4 drinks which took 11.5 minutes to finish each when the volume was turned to 88 decibels. You could use the same strategy of fast-paced music to increase the quantity of alcohol consumed and the drinking rate.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

    Chart Toppers

We don’t know a huge amount about the producers/remixers behind this 90s classic dance hit.

Nonetheless, the slow, seductive beats bring “Groovejet” into the 21st Century.  It’s a hit but don’t just take our word for it.  The remix is topping the charts over at Beatport – No 1 in the Indie/Nu Disco chart.
